FAQ

When you begin your search for a home inspection, there are ten important questions you should have answered before you select your home inspector. At the bottom of this page you may select a checkbox or checkboxes along with providing us with your email address. Cooper Home Services Inc will respond to your inquiry immediately with our responses to the questions you have. If you have questions in addition to the 10 listed below, please type them in the blank space and we will address those as well.

1. What does your inspection cover?

The State of North Carolina by law requires that all Twelve Systems of the Home be inspected for a full Home Inspection. These are the included systems: Foundation, Structural Components, Exterior, Roofing, Insulation and Ventilation, Interior, Plumbing, Electrical, Built-In Appliances, Heating, Cooling and the Attic. Cooper Home Services, Inc strictly adheres to the North Carolina Licensure Boards Standards of Practice and also the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors Standards of Practice. There are circumstances where the Inspector will go beyond the standards of practice when it involves issues of safety.

2. How long have you been practicing in the home inspection profession and how many inspections have you completed?

Tom Cooper has been inspecting homes for Four Years in the State of North Carolina and has inspected over 800 homes. This only includes the number of homes inspected and does not include commercial inspections.

3. Are you specifically experienced in residential inspection?

Yes. Tom is one of the few Home Inspectors in North Carolina that was trained specifically in new and existing home inspections by an accredited Home Inspections training school. Inspection Training Associates, Manassas, Virginia.

4. Do you offer to do repairs or improvements based on the inspection?

NO! We Consider this a conflict of interest. Home Inspections and Commercial Inspections is our only business.

5. How long will the inspection take?

The average on-site inspection time for a single inspector is two to three hours for a typical single-family house; anything significantly less may not be enough time to perform a thorough inspection. Additional associate inspectors may be brought in for very large properties and buildings. Tom does not put a time limit on “His Inspections.” We feel it is to the Clients benefit to spend the necessary time to do a superior job.

6. How much will it cost?

Costs vary dramatically, depending on the region, size and age of the house, scope of services and other factors. A typical range might be $300-$500, but consider the value of the home inspection in terms of the investment being made. Cost does not necessarily reflect quality.

7. What type of inspection report do you provide and how long will it take to receive the report?

The “Inspect-It” Software that we use is known throughout the industry as one of the most superior software reporting programs. It is easy to understand with digital photographs that categorize all the Major and Minor repairs needed to the home. The State of North Carolina requires the report to be delivered to the client with in Three Business Days, but we typically (in most cases) will deliver the report within Twenty-Four Hours.

8. Will I be able to attend the inspection?

Yes! In fact we prefer it. This is a valuable educational opportunity, never pass up this opportunity to see your prospective home through the eyes of an expert.

9. Do you maintain membership in a professional home inspector association?

1. National Association of Certified Home Inspectors
2. Co-Founder of NACHI / NC

10. Do you participate in continuing education programs to keep your expertise up to date?

Yes! North Carolina requires that Home Inspectors attend a mandatory Continuing Education Program every year that includes 12 CE Hours pre-approved by the state. Tom is also enrolled in the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors “Certified Master Inspector” program and regularly has to attend “peer review” and complete a total of an additional Fifty Credit Hours of Continuing Education per year on-line.
